Collaborative work: “Surveying the studio”

(2015) by Kaya Barry & Shinobu Terada
at Arteles Creative Centre, Hämeenkyrö, Finland, August.

The Arteles studio space was an old gym room of a school.
There is a lifting beam and ropes.
Every day we swing and play on them.

The lifting beam is adjustable. It has 10cm numbered increments that go from floor to ceiling. The increments are not evenly spaced.

Together we create an intervention in the space. We wrap and survey the space, to emphasise the playful elements.

Shinobu wraps the lifting beam and rope. Kaya measures the distances.

The studio space expands when people swing, gaze, lift, and move through the bandages and tape.
